There are three types of patents granted in Taiwan: inventions, new models and new models, which have protection periods of 20, 12 and 10 years respectively, counting from the date of filing. For a patent for invention, the Patent Office shall conduct a substantive examination of the patentability of the invention. New patents shall be registered and recorded, and shall be examined in the form of simultaneous application; The actual examination system shall be implemented for the new model patent, and the actual examination shall be carried out simultaneously at the time of application.

Patent applications in Taiwan require traditional Chinese characters to be used. The application for invention/new model shall include the specification, abstract, claim and attached drawings; For the new style application, the design picture should have six side view and the stereo, had better have the shadow line expression, also can use the photo instead, if is the photo should provide a set of 4, can also provide a brief description of the content and characteristics of the product.

In addition to the application documents, the following documents are required for filing the Taiwan patent application:

1. Affidavit: Signed and sealed by the inventor or producer, stating that the invention or production of the patent application is not plagiarized; Multiple inventors may sign one sheet together;

2. Power of Attorney: Power of Attorney to the agency, signed by the applicant, each application signed in two copies;

3. Certificate of Nationality: a notarized copy of the ID card, passport, household registration book, etc. of the natural person as the applicant. One certificate of nationality is applicable to all applications of the same application, but valid for three years;

4. Legal person certificate: a notarized copy of the business license of the applicant's legal person.
